Copyright Confusion

I'm still shocked at the lack of understanding about what constitutes a copyrighted photo and who owns that copyright. The music industry has addressed this and it's pretty clear to the public that they shouldn't be burning illegal copies of songs. Our industry is yet to make a clear impression on the public that it is no different to make an unlicensed photo of someone elses works without express written permission. It boggles my mind, especially since photographers have worked the same way for a hundred years. Check out this Star Trib story and take a minute to read some of the comments. They are all over the place.

Why Jon, not John?

My mom is an artist. When I was born my parents chose to name me after another artist, American Illustrator, Jon Witcomb. Today I ran across a website with samples of his work. You can see them at: American Art Archives
