Senior Portraits

If the weather brightens up a little bit we are planning to finish senior portraits for grandson, Forrest today. Our target location is the sculpture garden near the Walker Art Center.
Update: Although very grey and cold we were able to finish up Forrest's senior portrait location session at the sculpture garden.

Getting Buzzed On Casco Point

A couple of days ago a light plane decided it was fun to do circles around the end of Casco Point. After five or six passes I decided to grab the 80-200 mm lens and take a couple of shots. The pilot was either doing some aerial photography, lives here or knows someone who lives out on the point.

Cassie Revisited

Sometimes it's interesting to go back to an image from the archives and try to alter it's look. Today I pulled up this portrait of Cassie and worked it in Corel Painter and added a Topaz filter to the mix.

Glee - Madonna Black And White Preview

I have got to say this preview clip from Glee just makes me want to mix up some D76, turn on the red lights and drag some prints through the stop bath. What a wonderful vision in black and white.

Hand-painted Background

Yesterday I had a chance to "test drive" my repainted canvas background. I think it is going to work out fine, although it always seems there are a couple of things I might have done a little better. It will get it's first real use on a corporate portrait location session on Wednesday. My model for this mini session is granddaughter, Amanda. We were about to go out the door to hear the Minnesota Orchestra.

Need a logo? On a budget?

Today I found a unique website called, LogoTournament.Com. If you have a new company or product line or just want to revamp your current graphic look you may want to visit this site. Even though, as professional photographers we know a bit about graphic design, it is still not usually what people pay hard-earned money for us to do. This concept is very interesting. Essentially, you create a "contest" to design a logo. You decide some parameters, offer up a prize amount and let the "contestants" go to work entering their creative concepts.

Nostalgia Trip - On A Jet, With The Jets

25 Years years ago I was on a flight from Salt Lake City, Utah to Minneapolis. I sat almost all the way to the back of the plane except for a large family just behind me. I didn't think much about who was around me until the flight attendant recognized the family as the singing group, The Jets, who had a huge hit, "You Got It All". If you don't remember it, here is a link to a YouTube video . I couldn't believe what happened next. With a little encouragement, they actually sang the song live for everyone on the plane!
What reminded me of this flight from years ago was the fact that the Jets are doing their first reunion concert in 25 years at the State Theatre in Minneapolis on Friday, April 9. Here is the concert information.

Build A Blog And Post To Facebook

Over the last couple of days I have realized a couple of things. First, technology changes faster than I can record the steps to accomplish a goal, such as make a blog post to Facebook. Second, the steps to get there need to be recorded one bit at a time, even though they may become obsolete in a few days. Whew!

Here are the steps I used TODAY to create a Blogger blog and make it show up on my Facebook page: Note- be sure you have enabled "cookies" in your internet settings.

First, you will need a unique email address and password just for this project. Next go to If you currently have another blog be sure to "log out". You will then see a "Create Blog" button. Press it. Fill in Google Account info. You'll see a blue circular 1, choose a name for your blog and a template (I recommend starting with Minima, the first option) Look for blue circular 2.

Once "Blog Has Been Created" post a sample entry, such as "just testing" and view blog to see that it works. Push the "follow" button on your own blog and if you know others ask them to follow you also. You need at least one follower for blog publishing with Networked Blogs later.

Add photo and profile info if you would like to do so. You can also do this later. When you "view blog" be sure to write down it's address from the browsers location bar, for example the address to the one I created today is:

Visit Feedburner at, where you will sign in with the email and password you used to create your blog. Click: Claim Your Feeds Now". Next, fill in the blog address you recorded earlier to "burn a feed this instant". Of the two choices you will see next choose the "atom" feed, which is the upper choice. Record the full FEED address: starting with "http://_ _ _ _. Your feed should now be live at that address. Go to "Feed Management", where you can add features to your blog, if you choose.

Now on to Push "Add Your Blog", which will take you to Facebook. In the upper right click "Register A New Blog". In the URL box use the original blog location you first recorded, like mine: . Confirm that you are the author. Use"Our widget to verify your choice". Copy the bit of html code to your clipboard. In new window open your blog to it's layout view. In "Layout", Page Elements" you will click the right side (not top) "Add A Gadget". Next choose HTML/Javascript from the dropdown menu as your gadget choice. A box will open and you want to "paste" the html bit from your clipboard into the contents area. If you want to title it "verify code" in that top Title section would be fine.
From the networkedblogs page (hopefully you kept it in a seperate window) click "Verify Widget". Once successful you may remove the blogger widget by opening it and clicking "remove". Otherwise it will just clutter up your design. This is something you could come back to later if you wish.

My networkedblogs "control" page has the following address: My quess is that if you just subsitute your blog title in the same way after blog/ you go to yours, if you are not already there. On the right side of this small page you will see "feed settings". Click and check box under "auto-publish to personal profile". You may then publixh a test item to your Facebook profile.

You can always go back and add widgets to your blog.

The following was the exact steps I took from beginning to end to create my new blog and Facebook feed today. I hope it works for you, as well.
